Recipe testing and nutrition policy

We want you to know exactly how much confidence to place in each recipe. This page explains our testing labels, how recipes are developed and how our nutrition estimates are worked out.

Testing status

Every recipe on Tasty Nest Recipes currently carries a "Not yet kitchen-tested" label. This means the recipe is original, follows standard and well-established cooking methods, and has been checked for consistency (quantities, times, temperatures and steps), but we have not yet cooked it ourselves from start to finish to confirm the result.

We will never describe a recipe as tested unless it has been. When a recipe has been cooked and checked in our kitchen, we will remove the label, note the date it was tested and update anything we change as a result.

How recipes are developed

  • Recipes are written for this site in our own words; we do not copy recipe text from other publications.
  • Methods, ratios and timings follow standard, widely used home-cooking techniques for each dish.
  • Prep, cook and total times are listed separately, and total time includes resting, chilling, marinating and similar waiting time.
  • Quantities are given in US measures, with metric weights for key ingredients.
  • Steps describe what the food should look like, not only how long it takes.

Food safety

Where doneness affects safety, recipes give minimum internal temperatures based on guidance from the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service: for example 165°F (74°C) for poultry, 160°F (71°C) for ground meat, 145°F (63°C) with a 3-minute rest for whole cuts of beef, pork and lamb, and 145°F (63°C) for fish. Where a recipe offers a lower temperature for preference (such as medium-rare steak), we say so and note the official recommendation. Read our guide to safe internal temperatures for more.

How nutrition is estimated

  • Figures are estimates per serving for the recipe as written, calculated from typical nutrition values for each listed ingredient and divided by the number of servings.
  • Optional garnishes and serving suggestions (such as rice, bread or toppings "to serve") are not included.
  • We check that calories are consistent with the protein, fat and carbohydrate figures, but values have not been verified by a dietitian or by laboratory analysis.
  • Actual values vary with brands, ingredient sizes, how much fat is absorbed or left in the pan, and portion size.
  • Because they are estimates, nutrition figures are shown on the page with a clear label and are not included in the structured data we provide to search engines.

Please do not use these estimates for medical or dietary decisions. See our disclaimer.

Dietary labels

Tags such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten free or dairy free describe the recipe as written using suitable products. Always check product labels, especially for allergens.

Ratings and reviews

We do not show star ratings or reviews, and we never invent them.
