About this recipe

Ham and cheese sliders are the easiest way to make a dozen hot sandwiches at once. Soft, sweet rolls are sliced as a slab, filled with ham and Swiss and drenched in a savoury butter glaze with Dijon, Worcestershire and poppy seeds.

Baking them covered at first melts the cheese, then a few minutes uncovered crisps the tops. They are a hit at game days, parties and family lunches.

Equipment you'll need

  • 9 x 13-inch baking dish
  • Serrated knife
  • Foil

Tips for success

  • Assemble up to a day ahead, cover and refrigerate; add the glaze just before baking and add 5 minutes to the covered time.
  • Keep the rolls together as a slab; it is much faster than filling them individually.
  • Do not leave them at room temperature for more than 2 hours.

Substitutions and variations

  • Use turkey, roast beef or pulled chicken instead of ham.
  • Swap Swiss for cheddar, provolone or pepper Jack.
  • Use brioche slider buns instead of sweet rolls.

Storage and reheating

To store: Refrigerate leftovers, covered, for up to 3 days.

To reheat: Reheat covered with foil in a 325°F (165°C) oven for 10 to 15 minutes until warmed through.
